The Zoom Handy H2 is full of features and can be used in configurations that other portable recorders are not built to handle.
In many cases, this portable device will replace even professional component recorders.
The Zoom Handy Recorder H2 is revolutionary because of its four-microphone design.
This portable recorder is currently on sale on Amazon through this link only!
The microphones consist of a front pair and a back pair, both in a W-X/Y configuration. This configuration angles each microphone toward the other so their ideal pickup ranges crossover into an ideal sweet spot for stereo recording.
This means the left channel is picked up by the right microphone, and the right channel is picked up by the left microphone.
The pickup angle for the front pair of microphones is 90 degrees, while the rear microphones have a pickup angle of 120 degrees.
You can set the Zoom Handy H2 to record strictly from the front pair or the rear pair of microphones at 96 kHz/24-bit audio resolution, or both sets of microphones can be activated for 360-degree recording at 48 kHz/24-bit audio resolution.
After choosing the setting, recording starts with the push of a single button. Users who want to make sure recording starts at peak levels will love the auto start and auto gain control features, and if your recording levels need to be adjusted, the controls work on the fly during while recording.
The only downside to be mentioned in this Zoom H2 Handy Recorder review is that the device doesn’t have a built-in playback speaker.
Playback can only be accomplished through a separate audio system or with headphones via a 1/8-inch stereo output jack.
Several accessories are included with the Zoom H2 Handy Recorder. The most important accessory is the 512MB SD card. While this doesn’t provide much recording time, it is enough to get started.
The Zoom H2 can handle up to a 16GB card that will provide 280 hours of recording time as a 128 kbps MP3 file. Other accessories include a stereo to RCA adapter cable, USB cable, AC adapter, tripod stand, and a microphone clip adapter.
The H2 Zoom is only 4.3” x 1.3” x 2.5” in size and weighs in at 3.8 ounces for the ultimate in portability, and it runs for up to 4 hours on two alkaline AA batteries.
